Overview

As a student, you will develop sound theoretical and practical knowledge and skills to engage in culturally informed and accountable ways of language work.

During the course you will focus on the linguistic skills and knowledge needed for appropriate and culturally sensitive language documentation, maintenance and language recovery and revitalisation.

You will also have the opportunity to develop skills in speaking an Indigenous language (Yolngu or Arrernte), and learn how language (and language learning) exists within cultural and social understanding and practices.

You will have the skills and confidence to move into professional roles and further study in the fields of language and linguistics, and in Indigenous language planning and policy at local and national levels. Your skills will also prepare you for active participation in, and equitable engagement between, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander language cultures and the broader Australian community.
