Overview

RMIT is a leader in mechanical engineering, offering courses that are underpinned by our high-impact research and collaboration with industry.

As a mechanical engineering student you'll develop skills required to plan, design, develop & improve machinery used in everyday life.

Mechanical engineers design, analyse & improve products as diverse as refrigerators, washing machines, vehicles, solar water heaters, pumps, engines, compressors, wind turbines & air-conditioning systems.

You can specialise in automotive engineering, computer-aided engineering and design, industrial aerodynamics and computational fluid dynamics, energy conservation & renewable energy, mechatronics, dynamics & control.

You’ll have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in our well-equipped laboratories, & undertake project work & work experience in industry.

There is also the opportunity to participate in projects such as the Formula SAE racing car teams or work on Engineers Without Borders projects.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL; Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in one of Maths: Further Mathematics, Maths: Mathematical Methods or Maths: Specialist Mathematics.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.
