Overview

Learn to evaluate risk and opportunity in a business setting, and use your findings to influence some of society's most important economic structures. Actuaries play major roles in a range of organisations, and are often considered the backbone of financial security.

In this course you'll learn to apply mathematical concepts to real-life scenarios, and use your analytical skills to help companies plan for the future. As you further develop your maths and analytical skills, you'll start to use a range of concepts and data findings to solve real commercial problems.

Graduates will be able to seek employment in a wide range of business fields dealing with risk and prediction. This includes insurance and consulting actuarial firms as well as other industries such as mining, telecommunications, government agencies and academia. This degree is also accredited by the Actuaries Institute Australia, and may allow you to achieve Part 1 of the Actuaries Institute professional qualification

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 27 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL; Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in one of Maths: Mathematical Methods or Maths: Specialist Mathematics.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

As for Year 12 (or Year 12 equivalent).
