Overview

Events of the past shape the present. Are you searching for an explanation for a current affair? Look backwards. As you deepen your understanding of the past, you'll be better equipped for the future.

What will you do?

Our Bachelor of Arts (History) has a strong focus on teamwork, collaboration, and industry internships. You will:

  • study global empires and world-changing revolutions
  • analyse historical events from different perspectives
  • explore diverse topics, from heresy and witchcraft in Medieval Europe to the election of Trump and the COVID-19 pandemic
  • undertake field trips and learn how to locate suitable primary historical sources
  • conduct advanced historical research on a chosen topic
In addition to history, our Bachelor of Arts program allows you to explore other interests by taking a minor (or another major) in a different discipline area. You can choose elective courses from the broadest range of study areas in the Arts in South Australia.

Where could it take you?

You could be a political analyst, an archivist, a cultural resource manager, or a genealogist. You might write a book about the Great Emu War in Australia or the Dancing Plague of 1518. Perhaps you'll be a historical guide, leading tours of battlefields, museums, and landmarks.
