Overview

Curious about Indonesia's history and linguistic heritage? Want to make the most of Australian Government scholarships through the New Colombo Plan? As the world's fourth most populous country with a rapidly growing economy, Indonesia offers a rich cultural landscape to explore, and exciting career opportunities.

What will you do?

Our Bachelor of Arts (Indonesian Studies) has a strong focus on teamwork, collaboration, and industry internships. You will:

  • learn to speak, read and write Indonesian
  • study Indonesian societies and cultures, including Indigenous communities and belief systems
  • understand the impacts of colonialism and the West on Indonesia
  • immerse yourself in the language and culture through a short study-abroad program
In addition to Indonesian Studies, our Bachelor of Arts program allows you to explore other interests by taking a minor (or another major) in a different discipline area. You can choose elective courses from the broadest range of study areas in the Arts in South Australia.

Where could it take you?

There are many exciting career options for Australians who study Indonesian. You could be a diplomat, a development worker for an NGO, or a journalist in Jakarta. You might work in international trade. Perhaps you'll pursue teaching, tourism, or translation.
