Bachelor of Arts (Pathway to Teaching Primary)/Master of Teaching (Primary)

This degree will put you on the path to Master of Teaching (Primary), and a rewarding career as a primary school teacher. It will also give you the skills you need to explore your prospects beyond the classroom.

This consecutive qualification gives you access to a teaching career in four years. After successful completion of the Arts degree, you will transition into Master of Teaching (Primary) after demonstrating suitability for teaching.

The first three years of the study in the Bachelor of Arts focus on a general program of your choice to gain the necessary learning areas to satisfy the NSW Education Standards Authority requirements for entry into teaching. As part of your study, you will complete eight subjects of study (equivalent to 12 months) in an education studies – primary teaching specialisation in English, Mathematics or Science. The fourth year of study (accelerated mode) in Master of Teaching (Primary) will concentrate on the skills and knowledge needed to translate your expertise to a classroom setting.

Completion of the consecutive course in four years involves study of the Master of Teaching (Primary) component in 12 months in accelerated mode. Master of Teaching (Primary) is also available in normal full-time mode over 18 months (or part-time equivalent). Initial enrolment in this consecutive program will be into the Bachelor of Arts. Graduates of Bachelor of Arts will transition into Master of Teaching (Primary) after demonstrating suitability for teaching. Part-time study in the Bachelor of Arts component is generally completed by day, as evening classes are limited.

The Bachelor of Arts and Education components of this program are offered at Bankstown City, Parramatta and Penrith campuses. The full range of Education subjects are offered at Bankstown City and Penrith campuses with a selection of subjects online. The Master of Teaching (Primary) component is primarily offered at the Bankstown City campus, although a small selection of subjects are  offered at the Penrith campus.
