Overview

Why is society organised the way it is? How does culture shape our identities? What is the role of institutions in shaping behaviour? Sociologists think critically and imaginatively, unpacking the assumptions behind our most significant social issues and questions.

What will you do?

Our Bachelor of Arts (Sociology) has a strong focus on teamwork, collaboration, and industry internships. You will:

  • identify societal trends and power structures
  • debate and problem-solve around social issues
  • study influential thinkers throughout history
  • build research, analysis, and critical thinking skills
  • unpack topics such as crime prevention, social control, and globalisation
In addition to sociology, our Bachelor of Arts program allows you to explore other interests by taking a minor (or another major) in a different discipline area. You can choose elective courses from the broadest range of study areas in the Arts in South Australia.

Where could it take you?

You could be a social worker, a market research analyst, a criminal justice researcher, or a public health campaigner. You might use your knowledge of social structures and trends to report on social issues as a journalist. Perhaps you'll advocate for at-risk youth or advise government bodies on human rights policies.
