Overview

La Trobe’s Bachelor of Arts and Master of Teaching (Secondary) course package lets you build knowledge and skills in up to 50 different majors, while providing a pathway to teaching for a secondary curriculum.

Study a broad range subjects including history, psychology, mathematics, economics and languages taught by acclaimed academics. With no core subjects required, you can take subjects from almost any discipline to keep your options open or specialise in your chosen area.

Graduates who meet the entry requirements for the Master of Teaching (Secondary) can combine knowledge of their chosen majors with skills in education. This two-year teaching qualification addresses the need to move from a generalist model of secondary teacher education to a specialist approach.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Subject proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.

Potential Career Outcomes

The flexibility of our Bachelor of Arts degree means your majors may be taught as part of a secondary curriculum, including English, mathematics, health, humanities, physical education and science.

If you meet the entry requirements for the Master of Teaching (Secondary), you can become qualified to teach at a secondary curriculum level in schools.
