Overview

Using your knowledge and analytical skills, you'll perform diagnostic pathology testing and scientific procedures on samples such as body tissues, fluids and swabs to investigate, identify and treat disease.

You will also learn about quality control and assurance, accreditation and total quality management of a diagnostic pathology laboratory.

In your third year, you will major in two pathology discipline specialities and undertake a discipline-focused advanced laboratory medicine project.

In your final year, you will undertake one semester of supervised professional practice to give you work-ready skills and experience in a diagnostic lab. 

As a graduate you will play a critical role in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease, working in a team with doctors, pathologists and other healthcare professionals to help treat patients correctly.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL; Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in one of Biology or Chemistry; Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in one of any Mathematics or Physics.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.
