Overview

This course enables students to develop technical, analytical and practical skills and knowledge in financial planning. Students will develop a thorough understanding of financial products, risk management and investment strategies, and will acquire the financial planning skills required to provide professional advice in a range of areas, and to achieve a financial planner licence. 

This course consists of a common core in business, major studies in financial planning, and the flexibility to choose eight subjects from business or other disciplines including accounting, entrepreneurship, management, marketing and business law.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.

Potential Career Outcomes

Financial planning graduates can expect to occupy roles in stockbroking, funds management, insurance and risk, superannuation, and in private sector or government organisations that require technical expertise in the financial planning area. 

Job titles may include: investment advisor, fund manager, risk or financial analyst, wealth management officer, insurance broker, stockbroker, investment banker, superannuation specialist and personal financial advisor.
