Overview

Students will learn to analyse, design and build sophisticated business information systems through use of state-of-the-art methodologies, tools, hardware and software to emerge with a multidisciplinary degree that combines IT skills with business acumen.

This three year course consists of a common core in business, and major studies in business information systems including business IT development, data management, e-business systems, and business analysis and design.

Students also have the flexibility to choose a minor or electives from business or other disciplines such as accounting, logistics, international business, economics or finance. Students may choose to deepen their knowledge by undertaking additional subjects or a minor sequence in user systems, networking, information systems security and risk management.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.

Potential Career Outcomes

Graduates can be employed across many industries that value the combination of IT skills and business knowledge. Some typical positions include: business analyst, database designer, systems analyst, IT consultant, information centre manager, user liaison officer, information systems manager and programmer.
