Overview

This course provides legal knowledge and practical skills to handle the demands of 21st Century legal practice as well as offering an insight into the frameworks, institutions and rule-making processes of everyday commercial activity. Double degrees in commerce and law are recognised as attractive graduate attributes by law firms and organisations in both public and private sectors. The degree aims to develop ethical and professionally skilled graduates with a broad knowledge in areas relevant to legal practice and an appreciation of the law's interaction with other disciplines as well as its international dimensions. The core content themes include commercial legal practice, international and human rights law, ethical practice and social justice, and engagement with the community through a pro bono practical placement program. Completion of the Accounting major will also assist in meeting the academic requirements for entry into professional associations in Australia and New Zealand.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Subject proficiency: As for year 12 or equivalent.
