This degree has been designed to provide students with a strong foundation in both the theoretical and the practical aspects of computational intelligence and an ability to critically analyse and evaluate information and solve problems. This degree provides awareness of social, economic, cultural, and environmental aspects of cognitive science in preparation for future roles as a computer scientist.
The honours year in Computer Science has been designed to provide graduates with a reinforcement of the theoretical and the practical aspects of computer science and a strong ability to critically analyse and evaluate information and solve problems.
On completion of this degree students will be able to competently use professional skills and knowledge in the systematic development of intelligent systems and demonstrate a broad understanding of the cognitive sciences. Students will develop and evaluate intelligent computer-based solutions appropriate to the social, political, international, economic and environmental contexts in which they are applied and engage in the process of continued learning needed to retain the necessary level of professional skills and knowledge in the area of artificial intelligence and cognitive science. Students will be able to apply research skills appropriate to postgraduate research or advanced industrial investigation.
This degree prepares graduates for ongoing professional development, preparing graduates for further study or for a career in a computing related field or in other areas where the range of skills and knowledge acquired is needed or desirable. Potential occupations may include analyst programmer, computer scientist and software developer; potential employers may include transport and logistics companies, the aero and defence industries.
