Overview

Building and construction managers are responsible for design, development, construction and operation of civil engineering and large-scale residential and commercial building projects. They require skills in project planning, cost and quality management, construction techniques and materials, building law, building codes, industrial relations and personnel management.

As key professionals in the construction industry, graduates will work closely with other professional disciplines, industry groups and development authorities. The course will also provide skills and knowledge that can be applied in other industries such as mining, petrochemicals and infrastructure development.

Minors available as part of this course include: Building Compliance and Quantity Surveying.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL.

Majors

Construction management.

Potential Career Outcomes

Graduates of this course may find employment as a construction manager, project manager, quantity surveyor, building technician/surveyor/contractor, estimator, contract administrator, facilities manager, building proprietors, property developer, government bodies, consultancy practices, contractor, developer and self-employed entrepreneur in both the private and public sector.
