Through this course, students develop knowledge of popular music forms and their socio-cultural contexts. Students will also be introduced to key concepts in event management, social media marketing and business planning. Furthermore, they will develop their understanding of various music and entertainment environments learning from artist management professionals, music promoters and marketers, and label owners on how to succeed in the music industry.
This degree allows students to connect with industry through work integrated learning activities and be part of an industry student mentoring program. Students have the opportunity to take electives in other creative arts areas to broaden their perspectives and collaborate on interdisciplinary projects such as music videos.
On completion of this degree, students will have advanced knowledge of music and entertainment industries, business activities, products and events, and creative arts policy. The degree prepares graduates for employment in a wide range of careers in the music and entertainment industries nationally and internationally. Potential occupations may include freelance musicians, music promoter, event manager, social media marketer, publicist, record label owner, and independent artist. Potential employers may include record labels, music promoters, music and arts festivals and major media companies.
