Overview

This course is designed to prepare students for employment in the criminal justice sector. Students explore how criminal justice systems work to serve individuals and the community through law enforcement, policy, practice and reform.

Students are introduced to key concepts in criminal justice, including policing and the correctional system. They also learn about crime theories and methods for preventing violence and addressing inequities within the criminal justice system.

Classes about policy making, international human rights and global crime give students the chance to expand their knowledge and expertise. 

The course also provides a qualification for those working in relevant agencies to assist with career progression and moving into other related fields.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English other than EAL or at least 30 in English as an Additional Language (EAL).

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.

Potential Career Outcomes

This qualification can lead to careers within Victoria Police, the Australian Federal Police, Home Affairs, the Department of Justice, corrections and prisons administration, the courts system, prosecutions, child protection and youth justice corrections, community services, local council authorities, security management, civil and criminal law firms.
