Overview

Study criminology and psychology and develop an understanding of human behaviour and offending and policing of the criminal justice system. You will develop an understanding of human motivation, relationships, communication and cognitive processes The course exposes students to all aspects of criminology, including crime conceptualisation and frameworks, the identification and processing of offenders by police and the courts, and the sentencing aims, punishment and sanctions. You will also complete a fieldwork placement that enables you to reflect upon and apply knowledge gained in class in a work setting.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL.

Majors

Criminology.

Potential Career Outcomes

A wide array of potential employment and career routes are possible. You may find employment as a community service officer, health services worker and within the criminal justice and security areas such as corrections, policing, courts, crime prevention agencies and crime victim advocacy and support groups, Department of Justice research, community justice groups, customs, border security.

Completion of this degree will also enable you to apply for Honours in Psychology.
