Bachelor of Design in Architecture Master in Architecture

Through the Bachelor of Design in Architecture Master of Architecture students learn what it means to be an architect in a globalised world. This is achieved with a focus on how the profession can shape global cities through complex spatial thinking.
The first step is to deprogram preconceived ideas of architecture. Such an approach lays the foundations for creative spatial and material awareness, pushing the boundaries of traditional architectural practice.

UTS takes a hands-on approach to digital design and fabrication: students learn the software, material and model-making skills required to translate thought into form, right from the start. They have the opportunity to work on real-life projects and engage with stakeholders such as the Powerhouse Museum, ABC, Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority and Sydney Olympic Park Authority.

Students are globally connected with opportunities to study in, work in or visit cities such as Berlin, Los Angeles, New York and Tokyo. They hear from international experts through guest lectures and are connected to global competitions and scholarships like the Cosentino Design Challenge or Frank Gehry internship program.

This course is an innovative and flexible professional degree. Through a non-sequential structure, which allows students to select from a range of core and elective subjects, it gives students choice regarding their professional specialisation that can best serve them in their future careers. Architectural design subjects enhance a critical understanding of architecture as both a discipline with an existing body of knowledge and a set of practices that continuously challenge and add to that body of knowledge.

Course progression: Students are required to achieve a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 70 or above at completion of the bachelor component. Students who do not meet this requirement will be transferred to the Bachelor of Design in Architecture to graduate, and may then apply for the Master of Architecture directly to UTS. Students who achieve a WAM of 70 or above and no longer wish to progress to the masters level may transfer to, and graduate with, a Bachelor of Design in Architecture. A standalone Bachelor of Design in Architecture is not professionally accredited.
