Overview

This course prepares graduates for a career in teaching and related fields. It examines learners and learning theories, curriculum studies and approaches to teaching and assessment. It includes professional experience commencing in year one of the course. Students undertake practical work in schools and a variety of other educational sites in rural and remote locations as well as wider community settings. The course has a special focus on education for sustainability and improving outcomes for Indigenous students. It prepares teachers to work with adolescents from ages 13 to 18, with emphasis on teaching Years 7 to 12. Graduates typically teach across two key learning areas to Year 10 and specialise in one discipline to Year 12. This course is nationally accredited through the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) in association with the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT). Graduates of this course are eligible for teacher registration in Australia.
