Overview

The Bachelor of Education (Secondary)/Bachelor of Arts double degree is designed to prepare secondary school teachers (Year 8 to Year 12) to teach the key learning areas in high schools. Students will be provided with the background and skills necessary to enter the teaching profession with confidence and competence. Students will gain knowledge of curriculum studies and education studies and undertake professional experience which brings together theory and practice in school settings. Graduates will be able to teach their chosen junior secondary or secondary school subjects such as English, drama, mathematics, health education, biology, earth sciences, languages other than English, information technology, business education, geography, history, legal studies, psychology and visual arts.Upon successful completion students will be eligible to apply for registration with the Teachers Registration Board of South Australia. Although the majority of graduates seek employment as teachers in the public or private sector, some follow other pathways. These include employment as a developmental educator, graduate administrative officer or youth and children’s support officer.
