Overview

The Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Arts (Exercise Science) is designed for those intending to become teachers in secondary schools with a specialisation in Physical Education, Personal Development or Health Education. This double degree program includes teaching practice in schools, a compulsory Exercise Science major sequence and a minor sequence to qualify to teach in two disciplines within secondary schools; these teaching areas would be Physical Education and a minor area such as English/Literature, Mathematics, Religious Education, and Psychology. ACU offers subjects at our Rome campus or students may elect to take a subject at one of our 85 educational partners around the world. An Education Studies sequence covers the key areas in learning and educational theory, as well as curriculum and teaching units in the selected specialist areas. Graduates may pursue a career in Catholic or other faith-based schools, government or independent secondary schools.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 1 and 2: satisfactory completion in two units (any study combination) of Maths: General Mathematics, Maths: Mathematical Methods or Maths: Specialist Mathematics or Units 3 and 4: any Mathematics; Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Subject proficiency: As for year 12 or equivalent; The minimum selection rank for this course, is equivalent to an ATAR of 70.00.

Potential Career Outcomes

Graduates are eligible for teacher registration, and may seek employment in secondary schools in government, independent, Catholic and other faith-based schools as a PE, HOPE and HPE secondary school teacher, and also in institutes of technical and further education (TAFE), vocational education, community education centres, private colleges and inclusive education settings.
