University of Newcastle - Newcastle - Callaghan
With a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), you will learn how to apply mathematics and
science to find creative solutions to complex problems and bring exciting innovations to life. Combine this degree with a number of complementary programs to further enhance your skills – allowing you to complete two degrees in a five-year study program.
With two separate degrees, you will be able to pursue careers in either area.
Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)/Bachelor of Business: Complement your robust technical engineering skills with business acumen and entrepreneurism. Learn how to manage people, projects and finances, propose new business opportunities and market your product.
You will be well positioned to bring technical insights into a business context or take a leadership role in engineering.
You can combine the Bachelor of Business with an engineering specialisation in chemical, civil, electrical and electronic or mechanical.
The engineering component of this program is offered from the Newcastle (Callaghan)
campus. The business component of this degree is offered from the Newcastle City campus.
Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)/Bachelor of Computer Science: Pair creativity with technology to develop both hardware and software for electronic and microprocessor-based systems. Your studies will open opportunities to work in fields including artificial
intelligence, robotics, computer graphics, digital forensics, bioinformatics, web development and data security. The Bachelor of Computer Science is combined with a Bachelor of Computer Systems Engineering (Honours).
Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)/Bachelor of Engineering (Honours): Combine two different fields of engineering to broaden your expertise and open a wider range of career opportunities:
Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)/Bachelor of Mathematics: Mathematics is fundamental to many breakthroughs in engineering. Expand your knowledge in maths-based areas like data mining, mathematical modelling, statistics and predictive analysis and discover how these skills can be used across various engineering fields.
You can combine the Bachelor of Mathematics with: Chemical Engineering (Honours), Civil Engineering (Honours), Computer Systems Engineering (Honours), Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Honours), Mechanical Engineering (Honours) or Mechatronics Engineering (Honours).
Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)/Bachelor of Science: Combined with engineering, a
Bachelor of Science can open up a diverse range of employment opportunities in both private industry and government organisations. You could pursue a career in areas like nanotechnology, telecommunications, fibre optics, laser technology, medical physics, organic electronics or photovoltaics. Note: Not all science majors can be studied with the engineering program.
You can combine the Bachelor of Science with: Chemical Engineering (Honours), Computer Systems Engineering (Honours), Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Honours), Environmental Engineering (Honours) or Mechanical Engineering (Honours).
To ensure that students meet the core disciplinary content for both degrees, the structure of these combined degree programs is prescribed. Usually, combined degrees can be completed in five years of full-time study, however for some combinations, timetable restrictions may mean programs take longer to complete.
Students wishing to complete two degrees that are not listed as combined may do so by making use of the university’s concurrent enrolment process. Once a student has demonstrated sound progress in their first degree, a second degree may be commenced. A student electing concurrent enrolment will require additional study time over and above the normal five years of an engineering combined degree program.
Refer to the relevant single degrees – not all majors offered within 482200 Bachelor of Business, 483200 Bachelor of Mathematics and 484020 Bachelor of Science are available within a combined degree.
Elective pathways: All University of Newcastle Engineering (Honours) programs facilitate the study of a wide range of elective pathways to customise our students' learning experience. These can deepen or broaden the knowledge base of the core program, depending on the student's desires and interests.
