Overview

Learn about the mechanics of a wide range of machines from robots and cars to space vehicles when you study mechanical engineering at UOW. You will learn how to design, build and test new forms of environmentally safe technologies, such as solar energy, solar vehicles, and wave and wind energy. You will explore advanced manufacturing, materials handling, powder technology, automotive technology and biomechanics and get the opportunity to study further technical subjects of your choice. Technical subjects include: – Mechanical engineering design, control of machines and processes, manufacturing process analysis, sustainable energy technologies, transport and engine technologies , dynamics of engineering systems, engineering fluid mechanics, and heat transfer and aerodynamics.

You will study a common first year, allowing you to learn more about engineering and its different fields before focusing on mechanical engineering from your second year onwards. The common first year provides you with sound fundamentals in mathematics, statistics, physics,  computing, engineering science and communication, mechanics, and materials. This degree includes a 12-week hands-on industry placement. You may gain credit for relevant work experience, either in Australia or overseas, by participating in our Professional Options Program.

Majors
