University of Wollongong - Wollongong
Learn about mechanical, electrical and computer technologies when you study mechatronic engineering at UOW. You will grow your knowledge of mechatronic engineering through studying computer-controlled systems like mechanical arms capable of performing manual labour with greater strength, speed and efficiency than a human. Computer-controlled systems are now a staple in modern society, from washing machines to central air conditioning, cameras, and computer printers. You will gain the skills required to help engineer the systems of the future.
You will study a common first year, allowing you to learn more about engineering and its different fields before focusing on mechatronic engineering from your second year onwards. The common first year provides you with sound fundamentals in mathematics, statistics, physics, computing, engineering science and communication, mechanics, and materials. This degree includes a 12-week hands-on industry placement. You may gain credit for relevant work experience, either in Australia or overseas, by participating in our Professional Options Program.
The first year provides you with sound fundamentals in mathematics, statistics, physics, computing, engineering science and communication, mechanics and materials. You then focus on your mechatronic engineering major from second year.
In your third and fourth year of the major you will branch into more specialised areas, including control theory, microcontroller architecture and applications, electronics, mechanical engineering design, foundation in electrical energy utilisation, robotics, and flexible automation.
Automation and control engineer, control system engineer, mechatronic design engineer, mechatronics engineer, project engineer, robotics and additive fabrication engineer, systems engineer, service engineer.
