Overview

Learn to deal with large-scale data networks, such as the internet and other devices and systems that represent, store and transmit analogue and digital information when you study telecommunications engineering and internet of things (IoT) at UOW. You will learn about data, voice and video communications, transmission through wireless and wired media. You will explore predicting and modelling communication systems performance and detecting or correcting errors in transmission. Grow your knowledge across a wide range of topics to prepare for roles as a telecommunication engineer. These topics may include data transmission equipment, customer access technology, analogue and digital radio and television systems, satellite
communications, global navigation, mobile communications, and remote sensing/telemetry systems.

You will study a common first year, allowing you to learn more about engineering and its different fields before focusing on telecommunications engineering and internet of things (IoT) from your second year onwards. The common first year provides you with sound fundamentals in mathematics, statistics, physics, computing, engineering science and communication, mechanics and materials. This degree includes a 12-week hands-on industry placement. You may gain credit for relevant work experience, either in Australia or overseas, by participating in our Professional Options Program.
