Overview

Constructed with substantial industry input and support, this course enables students to learn both the fundamentals and the practical application of a range of advanced manufacturing, digital design and industry 4.0 techniques. The degree enables students to specialise in three areas - Advanced Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing and Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Advanced Manufacturing and Robotics Engineering. This course provides graduates with a pathway into Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Robotics, which are accredited by Engineers Australia at the Washington Accord Level.

This course has been designed to provide a strong foundation in both the theoretical and the practical aspects of engineering, particularly those relevant to the development of manufacturing systems as they relate to digital and other forms of design. This degree provides an awareness of social, economic, cultural and environmental aspects of engineering and an ability to critically analyse and evaluate information and solve problems.

Students complete core (compulsory) topics that include either a major or minor research project, and option topics chosen from a range of option topics available. These topics aim to provide students the ability to develop engineering solutions appropriate to the social, political, international, economic and environmental contexts in which they are applied and engage in the process of continuing learning needed to retain the necessary level of professional skills and knowledge in the area of advanced manufacturing engineering.

The degree aims to prepare graduates for careers in a wide range of industry 4.0 applications including automation of industrial production, and horizontal, vertical and engineering integrations in a smart factory setting.
