Overview

The Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Electronic Systems and Security) has been designed to provide a strong foundation in both the theoretical and the practical aspects of engineering, particularly those relevant to the development of electronic systems as they relate to electromagnetic and other forms of security. This degree provides an awareness of social, economic, cultural and environmental aspects of engineering and an ability to critically analyse and evaluate information and solve problems.

On completion of this degree students will be able to proficiently use professional skills and knowledge in the systematic development of electronic systems, particularly those that relate to electromagnetic and other forms of security and demonstrate an understanding of various aspects of the engineering discipline and a technical understanding of some areas of electronic and electromagnetic systems engineering. Students will be able to develop engineering solutions appropriate to the social, political, international, economic and environmental contexts in which they are applied and engage in the process of continuing learning needed to retain the necessary level of professional skills and knowledge in the area of electronic engineering.

This degree prepares graduates for careers in defence, telecommunications and computer and information security industries. Potential occupations may include physicist, electronics engineer and information analyst potential employers may include computer and telecommunications industries, cyber security firms and the Department of Defence.

Combining degrees enables students to follow their interests and aspirations and enhance their career prospects by undertaking a second area of study in addition to their primary degree. Completing an approved combined degree option will normally add at least one extra year (full-time equivalent) to their studies. For example, students combining two three-year full-time equivalent degrees are normally able to complete both degrees in four years of full-time equivalent study.
