Overview

Prepare to lead environmental and social change and develop sustainable communities and organisations. Learn to drive sustainability from the community scale to the planetary scale.

This unique course focuses on the social and policy elements of environmental issues, while encouraging students to think critically and develop skills to communicate with a wide variety of audiences. This course is the first step towards a career that will address the most pressing issues of our time, including climate change responses, biodiversity protection, food and water security, and resource depletion.

Graduates of this course apply the skills learned to evaluate environmental policies and management strategies. Students also have the opportunity for overseas study to investigate how other countries are seeking to achieve environmental and social sustainability.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English other than EAL or at least 30 in English as an Additional Language (EAL).

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.

Potential Career Outcomes

This qualification can lead to careers including policy maker, environmental advocate, sustainability consultant or manager, community educator, or an environmental protection officer and tasks related to environmental management, identifying community needs, sustainability planning and environmental reporting in Commonwealth, state and local governments, consulting firms, private businesses in urban and rural areas, community organisations, non-government aid and development agencies.
