Overview

This course provides students with practical, theoretical and technical skills to develop technology-led sustainable fashion and textile solutions, products and systems using interdisciplinary and user-centred approaches at the intersection of design, technology, science and innovation.

Students will gain industry-relevant knowledge in materials, digital technologies and sustainability, supported by critical thinking, creativity, communication and collaboration. They can choose to specialise in one or more areas and/or complement their skills through a cross-specialisation in fashion design, textile design or fashion enterprise. 

Students will experience studio-based projects and work-integrated learning focused on addressing the needs of the fashion and textiles industry, related fields and emerging markets. There are also opportunities to undertake global study tours and exchange programs.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English other than EAL or at least 30 in English as an Additional Language (EAL).

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.

Digital technology, Fashion technology, Fashion wearables, Materials innovation, Smart textiles, Sustainability, Sustainable fashion and textiles, User centred design.

This qualification can lead to careers including materials designer, materials innovator, materials production manager, materials researcher, digital fashion innovator, digital fashion production manager, fashion experience creator, fashion coder, fashion sustainability compliance officer, sustainable sourcing manager, corporate social responsibility (CSR) manager, product developer, production manager, fashion design engineer, fashion technologist, textile technologist.
