Overview

In this course, students develop a range of practical, theoretical and technical skills and knowledge in fashion design. 

With a focus on the contemporary and global fashion design industry, related fields and emerging markets, this course is renowned for producing highly regarded and unique fashion design practitioners. With an emphasis on sustainable and ethical design, students learn through studios, workshops, guest seminars and industry feedback provided on their work. 

Students can choose to specialise in one or more areas to complement their knowledge and skills through a minor in textile design, sustainable innovation or fashion enterprise. They will refine portfolio and communication skills to best demonstrate their fashion design knowledge and skills to industry. There are also opportunities to work directly with industry and external partners and to undertake global study tours and exchange programs outside of Australia.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English other than EAL or at least 30 in English as an Additional Language (EAL).

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.

Potential Career Outcomes

This qualification can lead to careers including fashion designer, material designer, colour designer, digital content creator, creative pattern-maker, accessories designer, costume designer, creative director, stylist, fashion strategist, cross discipline practitioner, product developer, brand strategist, communications manager, fashion events producer.
