Overview

This course is part of Swinburne’s 2024 Early Entry Program. You will be selected for entry based on your subject study scores and school recommendation, instead of your ATAR. To be eligible, you must submit an online application and preference this course in VTAC. Learn more

Look closely at the role of games in contemporary society and how they are developing as a cultural industry. You'll undertake a range of projects which focus on analog and digital games. You'll also develop practical and creative research and communication skills in a games lab environment.

Bolster your CV with real industry experience while you study through our Work Integrated Learning programs, guaranteed in all our bachelor degrees. In the units Games and Interactivity Project 1 and 2 (GAM30002 and GAM30003), you’ll team up to create a game that you’ll showcase at PAX Australia with the aim of releasing it to the public.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English other than EAL or at least 30 in English as an Additional Language (EAL).

Majors

3D modelling for objects and environments, Behaviour and motivation in games, Digital game prototyping lab, Introduction to game studies, Introduction to games production, Pervasive game design lab, Principles of game design, Sound design and acquisition, User-centred design and evaluation, Writing for interactive narratives.

Potential Career Outcomes

Graduate may find opportunities in interactive content creation, game design, interface design and rapid prototyping. They may also pursue a non-games career in the broader media, multimedia and communications sectors. The type of roles this qualification leads to may include game developer, computer graphics (CG) animator, games tester, multimedia developer.
