The Honours degree in Health Science is designed to provide students with the foundations necessary for research in Health Science disciplines and to gain greater expertise during two semesters full-time study (or equivalent). Candidates will be required to submit a research thesis on work undertaken as part of the honours course.
All candidates will be required to study a unit in statistics and data handling and another unit negotiated with the School. Other requirements for the course include a literature review directly related to the thesis, and a dissertation. Students will be required to present their research work at a seminar.
There are employment opportunities in government and non-government medical and general health services, and in health research organisations. More specifically, positions occur in areas such as administration, management, health promotion and sales representation across a broad range of medical and health products (including diagnostic equipment and pharmaceuticals), project management, clinical research, community health groups, self-help groups, rehabilitation centres, welfare agencies, fitness centres, sports science and health and physical education. The course is also relevant to practising and potential health care professionals seeking to upgrade their qualifications.
In addition to the above, if you successfully complete this course, you may be also be eligible to apply for a range of other postgraduate courses including Graduate Certificates and Graduate Diplomas and Masters by coursework and research.
