Overview

Gain an excellent grounding in all aspects of the health sector with a particular focus on Ageing, Health Management, Health Promotion or Innovation. Core topics common to all specialisations will equip you with highly sought-after transferable skills and experience in a multidisciplinary environment, providing a strong foundation for future endeavours in health or in further study. You will develop the ability to critically approach new challenges in contemporary healthcare and be equipped to enter the workforce in a variety of health-related sectors or pursue postgraduate studies in a health-related discipline.

All specialisations offer a work integrated learning placement option, with placements available in a wide range of health-related industries and settings. Students can work within a health, community, or research setting to develop and enhance their work ready skills. Elective topics from other health areas can be taken to complement the specialisation.

The Bachelor of Health Sciences provides a flexible program of study and there are opportunities to explore a range of pathways with the ability to apply for entry to a number of other health-related undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at Flinders University. Entry to these degrees is by competitive application (generally through SATAC) and interested students should seek academic counselling prior to commencing their studies to confirm the correct sequence of topics they should follow for their interest area.

Expand your career options by combining the Health Management stream of this degree with the Bachelor of Business (Human Resource Management) (SATAC code 224401).

Combining degrees enables students to follow their interests and aspirations and enhance their career prospects by undertaking a second area of study in addition to their primary degree. Completing an approved combined degree option will normally add at least one extra year (full-time equivalent) to their studies. For example, students combining two three-year full-time equivalent degrees are normally able to complete both degrees in four years of full-time equivalent study. Students graduate with two degrees, expanding employment opportunities. For further information visit www.flinders.edu.au/combined-degrees.

On completion of this degree there is an opportunity to apply for a one-year Honours degree. For further information visit www.flinders.edu.au/study/courses/honours-bachelor-health-sciences.
