Overview

This double degree prepares you for a career that combines the clinical and business sides of healthcare and digital health, with an emphasis on clinical coding, health data analytics, health informatics (including e-health) and management.

Health information managers work in all areas of healthcare, from hospitals and community health centres to specialist disease registries.

From the foundations of human bioscience to specialised health information systems, you'll develop your knowledge and skills in anatomy and medical terminology, coding and classification of diseases, e-health and management, and health data analytics.

Professional placements are an integral part of this course, and many students often find employment with their host organisation after graduation.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL; Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in one of Biology, Chemistry, any Mathematics, Physical Education or Physics.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Subject proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.

Health data analytics and management, Health informatics (e-health), Health information management, Health information privacy and security, Medical/clinical coding and casemix systems.

Potential Career Outcomes

As a graduate, you can work as a health information manager in a variety of health and medical institutions, including healthcare technology development companies. Health information managers work behind the scenes in all areas of healthcare, from hospitals and community health centres to specialist disease registries and government agencies.
