Overview

The Bachelor of Information Technology (Business and Information Systems) produces IT professionals ready to manage and innovate in any challenging business IT environment. Graduates of this degree will be well placed to act as the bridge between the business needs of an organisation and the computing professionals required to provide the technical solutions. The course provides education in both the theoretical and the practical aspects of information technology and enterprise systems management, preparing graduates for roles such as business analyst, ICT project manager or consultant. The course offers national best practice work experience and job placement, preparing you for the needs of the South Australian, Australian and international technology industry and public service sectors. This degree is accredited by the Australian Computer Society at the professional level. Professional ICT courses accredited by the Australian Computer Society are recognised internationally under the Seoul Accord. Graduates meet the academic requirements for attaining chartered status as ICT professionals.

Students will study the future directions of business information systems through a major thesis along with a selection of computer, science, engineering and mathematics option topics. On completion this degree graduates will be well placed to act as the bridge between the business needs of an organisation and the computing professionals required to provide technical solutions.

This degree provides graduates with practical experience that prepares them for the workforce, by developing all the necessary applied and practical skills for a career in IT. There is the opportunity to gain first-hand industry experience with a 12-week industry placement, and students can focus on skills in written and oral presentation, professionalism and teamwork for important vocational capabilities.

The Honours year includes a major thesis focussed on business information systems as well as a selection of computer, science, engineering and mathematics option topics.
