Overview

This degree will appeal to applicants who have the goal of completing an Honours year in this specialisation of information technology. Develop the skills required to produce complex interactive systems used in gaming, preparing you to work in a range of industries, from entertainment to defence, health care to corporate, education and government, where the application of games and game technologies is key. Game development is an important tool for modelling real-life scenarios for training, problem solving and research in a variety of fields. Making games is a creative and technical art form, and this course will see you graduate with qualifications that are in demand across a broad range of industries.

The Bachelor of Information Technology (Game Development) (Honours) has been designed to provide a strong foundation in both the theoretical and the practical aspects of video games and information technology and an awareness of social, economic, cultural and environmental aspects of video games.

The final Honours year in Game Development has been designed to provide graduates with a reinforcement of the theoretical and the practical aspects of information technology with a focus on gaming systems, their application, development and management with a strong ability to critically analyse and evaluate information and solve problems. This degree provides the ability to work professionally as an individual, particularly in terms of a large research project

On completion this degree students will be able to proficiently use professional skills and knowledge in the systematic development of complex computer-based systems and develop computer-based solutions appropriate to the social, political, international, economic and environmental contexts in which they are applied.

On completion of the Honours year, students will be able to apply research skills appropriate to postgraduate research or advanced industrial investigation.

This degree prepares graduates for employment in the game industry and within simulation and interactive user centred design experiences across traditional computing and information technology domains. Potential occupations may include digital content coordinator, game play developer and game programmer; potential employers may include information technology services, educational institutions and the defence industry.

This degree is accredited by the Australian Computer Society at the professional level and is recognised internationally under the Seoul Accord.
