Enjoy a broad introduction to how new media practices shape our everyday lives, both in the workplace and in our communities when you study journalism and arts at UOW. You will build critical and innovative thinking skills, as well as effective communication and creative writing abilities to ensure success across a range of journalism careers. You will learn to gather, assess, create and present information to audiences as you write, edit and publish a broad variety of written materials. Gain foundational knowledge across history, literature, languages and philosophy as you study social sciences, cultural studies, sociology and politics.
How do we discover and share stories meaningfully? How do we create a better future? On completion of this double degree, you will be able to answer these questions and more as you become a seasoned storyteller with a broader understanding of how the world connects.
You'll benefit by learning from recognised and passionate leaders in their fields. You will learn core fundamentals in the first year of your degree before deciding which major discipline to focus on from the second year. You'll be part of the UOWTV Multimedia student newsroom, and produce coverage for its website, YouTube channel and social media platforms. You will have real deadlines and will engage with the community and industry. You will also explore and innovate within journalism’s changing environment, including podcasting, data journalism and immersive video. Throughout this degree, you will gain hands-on experience and make meaningful professional connections.
Bachelor of Journalism: Broadcast journalism, photojournalism, print journalism, web-based journalism. Bachelor of Arts: Ancient history, archaeology, Asia Pacific studies, Chinese (Mandarin) for background speakers, Chinese (Mandarin) for non-background speakers, creative writing, English language and linguistics, English literatures, environmental humanities, European studies, French, history, Indigenous studies, international relations, Japanese, legal studies, philosophy, photography, politics, sociology, Spanish, writing and English literatures.
Bachelor of Journalism: Print/television/radio/photo/online journalist, producer, researcher, communication specialist, editor, writer, copywriter, media adviser, careers in public relations and advertising. Bachelor of Arts: Art historian, historian and heritage specialist in government policy, business administration and management, consultancy, publishing, teaching, marketing, working for international aid organisations, work in unions and non-government welfare agencies, diplomacy, university lecturing and research, archives and librarianship, translation and interpreting, journalism, advertising.
