Overview

This course combines core law units with units of legal study which cover the requisite areas of knowledge (also referred to as the 'Priestley Eleven'). You will gain knowledge, skills and competencies in areas essential for the education and training of a lawyer and the additional context provided by arts disciplines.

You will gain training in practical lawyers' skills such as analytical legal writing, drafting, communication and advocacy, along with obtaining skills in creative arts, humanities and social sciences units. You will develop skills, knowledge and professional acumen across a range of Arts Majors listed below or in Arts Minor studies, preparing you for careers in the legal community as well as corporate and community sectors, in government and in non-government organisations.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL; Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in one of Economics, any History, Legal Studies, Australian Politics, Global Politics or Psychology.

Majors

Communication studies, History, Law, Literary studies, Political science, Sociology, Visual art, Writing.

Potential Career Outcomes

This course will provide you with a comprehensive knowledge of law and contemporary issues concerning society, ensuring that you are 'profession ready' and suitably equipped for a successful career in business, government or the community sector. You may find employment as an in-house lawyer, legal adviser, human rights advocate, policy adviser, barrister or solicitor.
