Swinburne’s Laws/Business double degree offers you a course focused on commercial law with emphasis on intellectual property law.

As the only double degree in Victoria with this specialisation, you'll learn about trade marks, patents and designs, copyright, the prohibition of misleading or deceptive conduct and competition law. You'll learn to think like an entrepreneur and develop the skills and knowledge essential to business management and operations.

All Swinburne degrees include a guaranteed Work Integrated Learning opportunity. In this degree, you’ll complete professional experience placements at organisations in Australia or overseas. You'll also be introduced to the practical aspects of legal practice through moot court scenarios and advocacy exercises.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English other than EAL or at least 30 in English as an Additional Language (EAL).

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

As for Year 12 or equivalent.

Potential Career Outcomes

Graduates will be equipped for careers in diverse settings such as law firms and barristers’ chambers, not-for-profits, government, small businesses and large multinational organisations. The specialisation in commercial law and intellectual property provides graduates with the skills to be a lawyer, solicitor or legal adviser across a broad range of industries including advertising and design, banking and finance, entertainment and media, internet and information technology and science.
