Overview

Help improve patients' quality of life when you study medical and radiation physics at UOW. You will study various forms of therapeutic radiation oncology as well as different methods of diagnostic radiation imaging, and the mechanisms of how such radiation interacts with the human body.

What are the latest technologies in radiation medicine? How can radiation better treat human diseases? On completion of this degree, you will be able to answer these questions and more as you build a strong background in physics as well as specialist theoretical-practical and programming skills in radiation medicine.

You'll benefit by learning from recognised and passionate leaders in their fields in this flexible yet rigorous program. You will learn where medical physics matters most: in hospitals, clinics and nuclear science research facilities. In this course, you will gain knowledge in areas relating to nuclear medicine, radiotherapy physics, radiation transport physics modelling, detector and instrumentation physics, and data analysis. You will learn core fundamentals across practical and theoretical subjects in the first year of your degree before deciding which minors and electives to focus on from the second year.

You will complete extensive professional experience throughout your degree, which allows you to learn by observation and apply your skills in the classroom.

Throughout this degree, you will gain hands-on experience and make meaningful professional connections.

Areas of study

In this course you will gain knowledge in data analysis, detector and instrumentation physics, nuclear medicine, radiation transport physics modelling, radiotherapy physics. In your second and third years, you will gain hands-on experience in photon, neutron and charged particle physics, and electron and x-ray related medical physics.
