It provides exciting options for students interested in a wide range of careers in the medical and health sciences, and emphasises the fundamental sciences that underpin virtually all fields of medical science. Also available is the Bachelor of Medical Science (Accelerated) (SATAC code 244651) which can be completed in less than the traditional 3-year timeframe. Or the Bachelor of Medical Science (Honours) (SATAC code 244891) which is a 4-year degree that includes an honours year.

The Bachelor of Medical Science designed to give graduates the knowledge base and skills to enter the health and medical science workforce, continue with a research higher degree or to continue with other health related degrees. As students progress through the degree they have more choice to eventually specialise in a range of areas in medical science.

This is an innovative and flexible degree providing exciting options for moving into a range of careers in the areas of medical science and research. It offers:

  • specialised study for those seeking to work as medical science professionals in such areas as microbiology, molecular medicine, physiology and anatomy, neuroscience, pharmacology and toxicology;
  • an appropriate basis for postgraduate studies in allied health fields such as speech pathology and audiology; and
  • a pathway for entry to the Doctor of Medicine at Flinders. For details see www.flinders.edu.au/healthpathways.
Graduates will find career opportunities in diverse areas such as medical research carried out in universities and government and industry-funded organisations, the pharmaceutical industry, government regulatory industries, industry-based biomedical companies, and diagnostic laboratories. Graduates also have further study opportunities at Flinders and interstate into other allied health degrees such as speech pathology, audiology, or a one-year Honours degree. Further information is available at www.flinders.edu.au/honours.

Expand your career options by combining this degree with the Bachelor of Engineering (Biomedical) (Honours) (SATAC code 224781)

Combining degrees enables students to follow their interests and aspirations and enhance their career prospects by undertaking a second area of study in addition to their primary degree. Completing an approved combined degree option will normally add at least one extra year (full-time equivalent) to their studies. For example, students combining two three-year full-time equivalent degrees are normally able to complete both degrees in four years of full-time equivalent study. Students graduate with two degrees, expanding employment opportunities. For further information visit www.flinders.edu.au/combined-degrees.
