The Bachelor of Nursing is a comprehensive program that prepares students to meet the Registered Nurse Standards for Practice and to meet their legal and ethical obligations as a registered nurse.
Students are prepared to be effective communicators, to work within the multidisciplinary healthcare team and to provide high quality person-centred care. There is a focus on the development of moral competence, patient advocacy and culturally safe care.
Students develop their capacity for critical thinking, clinical reasoning, critical reflection and the use of current evidence and research to practice safely and in a complex health environment.
Professional workplace experiences provide opportunities for students to be immersed in the practice of nursing and apply theory to practice in a range of healthcare environments such as acute care, mental health care, primary health care and aged care.
Students also choose one elective. Options include: Advanced Mental Health Nursing, Critical Care, Maternal Care, Paediatric Nursing, Palliative Care, Perioperative Nursing or Rural and Remote Nursing.
Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander peoples health, clinical therapeutics, complex care & palliation, illness prevention & management, law & ethics, leadership and governance, mental health nursing, public & global health, research for practice.
