Overview
At CDU, you can study a Bachelor of Nursing online or on campus, part-time or full-time. You will join a cohort of more than 4,000 nursing students across Australia, enjoy flexible study, and learn from nursing experts.
As a graduate of the Bachelor of Nursing, you will be ready to work as a safe, collaborative, articulate and ethical registered nurse. This course will prepare you to be responsive to local, national and regional healthcare needs, and aware of emerging global healthcare trends.
Studying a Bachelor of Nursing online
CDU is one of the largest providers of online nursing degrees. We were among the first universities in Australia to offer a Bachelor of Nursing online, and we have been delivering distance education for more than 30 years.
As an online nursing student, youll have access to 24/7 technical and academic support, an easy-to-use online learning platform, and be supported with placements and practical training close to your home.
Online study is only available to domestic students (Australian and New Zealand citizens, Australian permanent residents, and holders of Australian humanitarian visas).
Practical training
In order to complete the Bachelor of Nursing and qualify as a Registered Nurse, youre required to undertake two types of practical training: simulation blocks and supervised clinical placements.
You will complete three one-week simulation blocks (one for each year of study). These must be completed full-time and on campus at one of CDUs simulation suites located across Australia.
You will also complete 880 hours of supervised clinical placements across the three years of the course. These will take place in a variety of healthcare settings. If youre studying a Bachelor of Nursing online with CDU, we will endeavour to organise placements close to your home.
As Bachelor of Nursing student, you may also have opportunity to broaden your global outlook with additional international study tours and exchanges.
English language requirements
In order to register as a nurse or midwife in Australia, youre required to meet the English language requirements laid out by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. This applies to all initial registrations, regardless of whether they qualified in Australia or overseas. Find out more: www.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au.
Safe practice
In order to study nursing and practice safely, you will need to have an inherent set of qualities. Nursing needs a degree of physical strength and mobility, endurance, communication and cognitive abilities. If you feel you may experience challenges in meeting these requirements, you are encouraged discuss these with the Bachelor of Nursing Course Coordinator before enrolling in the course.
Reporting obligations
Under the national Health Practitioner Regulation National Law, CDU is required to register nursing students with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). We are also required to notify AHPRA if a student has or develops a health impairment that may place the public at substantial risk of harm. More information: www.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au
Graduates of this course are eligible to apply for registration with the Health Licensing Authority (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia).
Places Are Limited
The Bachelor of Nursing is a quota course, which means CDU receives more applications than there are places available. Applicants must be NT Residents; eligible applicants will be ranked in order of academic merit.
