Overview

This multidisciplinary course aims to give you a thorough understanding of human nutrition, preparing you for a range of careers in the promotion of health and fitness at both individual and community levels.

Over three years, you'll study the value of food and the importance of assessing the right food choices through food chemistry and nutritional bioscience studies.

The first two years of the course focus on human biosciences and foundations in nutritional science, such as food chemistry, nutrition and disease.

In the third year, you'll focus on food science, nutrition through the lifecycle, and nutrition research methods.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Subject proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.

Majors

Nutritional sciences.

Potential Career Outcomes

After graduation, you could work across a wide variety of sectors including population or public health, government bodies, community health, food industry (including food development, technology and analysis), research and media.

Possible roles include:
  • Nutritionist
  • Food Scientist
  • Nutrition policy advisor
  • Nutrition communicator or health marketing officer
  • Nutrition community educator
