Overview

Prepare for a career working in nature with a Bachelor of Outdoor Education and Environmental Science. This degree opens a range of career possibilities in the environmental sector as well as in outdoor education through discipline-specific studies in outdoor education, outdoor recreation, environmental science and general science. You will graduate with a solid science-based foundation along with knowledge, skills and understanding of adventure activities, community building, conservation, ecology and sustainability, group and resource management and leadership. Graduates will find themselves ideally suited for a range of scientific roles with CSIRO, Local Catchment Management Authorities (CMAs) and local government roles related to the environment and sustainability.

If you would like to pursue a teaching career, this course satisfies three major teaching areas for the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT), offering a pathway into the Master of Teaching (Secondary Education).

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL.

Potential Career Outcomes

Graduates can find a career in scientific roles with organisations such as the CSIRO or in land management roles with organisations such as National Parks, Local and State Government and Catchment Management Authorities (CMAs) or Eco and Adventure Tourism. Specific careers include Environmental Educator, Outdoor Educator, Outdoor Adventure Guide, Instructor or Facilitator, Park Ranger, or in teaching upon completion of the Master of Teaching (Secondary Education).
