Overview

If you are seeking adventure and interested in working in the outdoors, this course is what you are looking for. It is uniquely designed to match the requirements of the outdoor industry by ensuring that you develop the skills, knowledge and ability to create a lifelong career in the outdoors.

This degree opens a range of diverse career possibilities in the Outdoor Adventure, Outdoor Education, Outdoor Recreation, Adventure Sports, Environmental Education and Adventure/Nature Tourism areas. The course provides an opportunity for a paid extended industry internship major or several other aligned major and minor options to allow you to tailor the course to your desired career outcome.

With learning taking place across a diverse range of environments, students will use field teaching labs to transfer theoretical concepts and frameworks into practical workplace simulations. This ensures that students are gaining the attributes most highly valued by industry employers.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL.

Majors

Ecology and environmental management, Outdoor leadership industry internship, Physical Education, Sport and active communities.

Potential Career Outcomes

You will be well-suited to a career in the outdoor industry, gaining a transferable skill and knowledge set that will make you invaluable amongst employers. Depending on the combination of majors and minors you select you will be ideally suited for employment in outdoor leadership, guiding or freelance roles, within outdoor education/recreation/adventure organisations, teaching, youth work, nature/eco-tourism, environmental management, adventure sport coaching or business entrepreneurship.
