Overview

This course will have a new name and SATAC code for 2024 - the Bachelor of Paramedicine (244971).

This degree is for applicants seeking a career as a paramedic with an Australian State or Territory ambulance service or a research career in pre-hospital science.

The aim of the degree is to ensure all students have the skills, knowledge and attitudes to enable them to manage emergency and non-emergency situations in a manner consistent with best practice as paramedics. This is achieved as the degree has a strong emphasis on clinical skills acquisition and practical education using scenario-based teaching methods. In addition, students perform more than two hundred hours of emergency ambulance placements over the length of the degree to help consolidate their clinical and theoretical understanding in real-life situations. To maintain industry relevance, the degree actively collaborates with the South Australian Ambulance Service (SAAS) and Ambulance Victoria (AV) and relies heavily on input from practising, experienced paramedics.

This degree is an Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) approved program for first professional registration as a paramedic under the National Law. Paramedic Science graduates may also qualify for employment with ambulance services in international jurisdictions such as the United Kingdom and United States of America after completing relevant bridging and registration requirements.
