Overview

Understand who we are and how we think, feel, act and change when you study psychology as a pathway to primary education at UOW. You will scientifically study the human mind and its functions, and how they influence behaviour. When you combine your studies in psychology with a Master of Teaching (Primary) you will graduate with two degrees, greatly enhancing your professional skills and career options.

What underlies the physiological, sensory and cognitive processes of the human experience? How can psychologists and teachers apply this knowledge to enhance the learning development of children? On completion, you will be able to answer these questions and more when you work directly with students to help them improve their wellbeing and learning outcomes.
Alongside core studies in Psychology and other electives of your choosing you will complete a minor in education and complete several Master of Teaching subjects in the final year of your bachelor degree.

The Master of Teaching (Primary) makes you eligible to teach children aged 5 to 12 years in public, religious and private schools. This degree produces high quality teachers with an understanding of diversity in the classroom and with strong connections to school communities. You will benefit from the expertise of local teachers and a range of workshops to develop your skills in communication, technology-enhanced learning, working with parents, designing assessment, and conducting school-based research.

Your course will take five years but with fewer subjects compared to doing the courses separately. Progress to the Master of Teaching (Primary) is subject to meeting the normal admission requirements of the Master’s degree, and will be assessed at the end of your second year.
