Overview

This degree provides a foundation in the key fields of psychology. You’ll develop thorough grounding in clinical, developmental, biological, cognitive, and social and organisational psychology. You'll learn how to use interpersonal skills and the principles of counselling to help people with personal, health, vocational and social difficulties. Additionally, you’ll understand psychological theories on topics such as thinking and perceiving, motivation, stress, health and group behaviour; evaluate and understand tests that measure intellectual, behavioural and emotional states; and use counselling skills, coaching and group facilitation skills, and behaviour change skills. This degree includes training in research through the completion of an independent research project during the fourth year of study. Progression to the fourth year of the Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) degree is subject to meeting the required level of academic achievement. Majors

Minors: clinical and counselling; development and community; health and sport/exercise; organisational; psychological science.

Potential Career Outcomes

You will be qualified for professional employment as a probationary psychologist in areas such as job placement, clinical or organisational psychology, counselling, guidance, health management and social research. Psychology graduates are employed in a wide range of occupations and industries including in human resource management, aged care services, the police service and defence forces, marketing, welfare and community services, children's services and family support, correctional services, and mental health services. You can also pursue further studies to work in specialist fields, including becoming a clinical psychologist, organisational psychologist, or other specialist psychologist.
