Overview

The Bachelor of Science (Environmental Science) is a flexible, cross-disciplinary and innovative degree, allowing students to design a tailored study program with the specialisation in environmental science and a breadth component to meet individual study needs and enhance employment opportunities.

Building on the strong foundational core major in science, students will develop critical thinking, scientific reasoning, data analytical, and communication skills in the specialist scientific discipline of environmental science. The specialist major in environmental science develops capacity to employ transdisciplinary approaches to identify, conceptualise and analyse diverse environmental futures. The inclusion of a breadth component offers students the latitude to explore and expand their learning across a range of disciplines.

Scenario-based study and work-integrated learning (WIL) opportunities ensure students graduate career-ready, equipped to solve a range of theoretical and contemporary real-world problems in local and global contexts. A strong emphasis on experiential learning runs throughout the major. Active and participatory learning is encouraged through WIL opportunities, field class experiences and hands-on exposure to emerging technologies in the lab and field. Students will be introduced to environmental challenges and socio-scientific issues, and inspired to innovate solutions using leading-edge approaches, including remote-sensing and drone technologies, ground-breaking eDNA methods and advanced computational modelling.
